This Ramadan…be an orange!

Say what?

The example of a believer, who recites the Quran and acts on it, is like an orange (utrujjah) which tastes nice and smells nice.

And the example of the believer who does not recite the Quran but acts on it is like a date that tastes sweet but has no smell.

And the example of the hypocrite who recites the Quran is like a sweet basil which smells good but tastes bitter.

And the example of a hypocrite who does not recite the Quran is like a colocynth (bitter apple) which tastes bitter and has a bad smell.”

Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa Ant
Khalaqatani wa ana ‘abduka
wa ana ‘ala ‘ahdika wa wa’dika mastata’tu
audhobika min sharri ma sana’atu
abu ooh laka bi ni’matika ‘alayya
wa abu ooh bi zanbi
faghfir lee fa innahu la yaghfiruz zunooba illa Ant

“I guarantee a house in Jannah (Paradise) for one who gives up arguing, even if he is in the right; and I guarantee a house in the middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even for the sake of fun; and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Jannah for one who has good manners”

[Prophet Muhammad SAWS – reported by Imam Abu Dawud]

Lessons

1. When in the middle of a heated argument over anything, just remember: Rasool Allah (SAWS) has promised you a house in Paradise if you give up this argument. What’s better: winning an argument and feeling tough and strong (while in the process, maybe hurting others and maybe disrespecting the Islamic adaab), or a house in Jannah?

Bismillah.

The Messenger of Allah [SAWS] said, “Whoever prays the dawn prayer (fajr) in a group and then sits and does dhikr until the sun rises, then prays two rak’as, shall have the like of the reward of a hajj and an ‘umra.”

Anas [RA] said, “The Prophet [SAWS] said: ‘Completely, completely, completely'”

[Tirmidhi]

First step

Pray Fajr in Jama’ah. The reward for the one who prays Fajr in Jama’ah is that of praying half the night (in Imam Muslim’s narration, praying Fajr in jama’ah has the reward of the entire night’s worship!).

Second step

Don’t rush out of the Masjid after the salah is over! Sit and remember Allah by making dhikr. Dhikr could be reading Quran (the best dhikr) or reading adhkaar found in authentic sunnah (www.makedua.com) or here.

Third step

Before leaving, pray two rak’ah of Doha prayer. It’s the charity for every joint in your body (hadith quoted below). It’s a means of forgiveness of sins:

“Whoever adheres to the Duha prayer shall have his sins forgiven, even if they are like the foam of the sea.”

[Tirmidhi].

1 + 2 + 3 = The reward of a Hajj and Umrah! Every day!

May Allah give us all the tawfeeq to implement this day-in and day-out ’till we meet Him, ameen.

Bismillah.

And remember when Ibrahim (Abraham) and (his son) Isma’il (Ishmael) were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka’bah at Makkah), (saying), “Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Truly! You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.”

Our Lord! And make us submissive unto You and of our offspring a nation submissive unto You, and show us our Manasik (all the ceremonies of pilgrimage – Hajj and ‘Umrah), and accept our repentance. Truly, You are the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful.
[AlBaqarah:127-128]

Let’s look at this situation: we have two of the best of Allah’s creation (Ibrahim and Ismael, upon them be peace) making the most holy structure on the face of the Earth (the Ka’bah) in the most sanctified place on Earth (Makkah)…what is it the thought that is going through their minds?
