Revive a Sunnah: The Takbeer of Dhul Hijjah

The Takbeer is an aspect of the Sunnah of the Prophet [SAWS] that has been forgotten in recent times, so much so that we hardly see people making the takbeer. In fact, if you ask someone “Why aren’t you making takbeer during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah?” they’d probably say “The first ten days are here already?!”

Watch this video to learn all about the Takbeer of Dhul Hijjah, in sha Allah:

The ista’aadha: A’udhu billahi min ash Shaytanir Rajim

أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم

I seek Allah’s protection/refuge/shelter from Shaitaan, the Accursed one.

A beautiful explanation of the ista’aadha, done by br. Faraz Khan [h].

More awesome stuff can be found at ReelOpener.

The ista’aadha is a very simple yet powerful tool. It’s us asking Allah [SWT] to shelter us from Shaitaan. The ista’aadha is like a canopy: we walk under it’s shade to protect ourselves from excessive sun or rain. Similarly, we ask Allah to provide us this canopy to protect us from the harmful attacks of Shaitaan.

Some times to make ista’aadha (a.k.a. to say أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم):

  • when beginning to recite the Quran
  • after waking up
  • before sleeping
  • when angry

Some common ways of making ista’aadha:

  • saying أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم
  • reciting Surah Falaq (113)
  • reciting Surah Naas (114)

Revive a Sunnah: Recitation in Sunnahs of Fajr and Maghrib

Abu Hurairah [RA] reported:

The Messenger of Allah [SAWS] recited in the two sunnah Rak`ah of the Fajr prayer Surah Al-Kafirun (in the first Rak`ah), and Surah Al-Ikhlas (in the second Rak`ah).

Narrated Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud [RA]:

“I cannot count how many times I heard the Messenger of Allah recite, in the two rak’at after maghrib and in the two rak’at before fajr ‘Say: O disbelievers,’ (Surah Kafiroon – 109) and ‘Say: He is Allah, the One.’ (Surah Ikhlas – 112).”

[Related by Ibn Majah and At-Tirmidhi]

So, it’s very clear that it was a sunnah of the Prophet [SAWS] to:

  • recite Surah Kafiroon (109) in the first rakah
  • recite Surah Ikhlas (112) in the second rakah

of the sunnah prayer before Fajr and after Maghrib.

Actually, it gets better:

How to Measure Salah Quality

It’s the first thing that Allah [SWT] will ask us about on the Day of Judgement…and if this is good, then everything else will fall into place. It’s our prayer – Al Salah – and it makes so much sense to have a process in place to monitor the quality of salah and to keep improving it.

Here’s a way to progressively improve the quality of salah till we reach the level of emaan where we can worship Allah as if we see him, in sha Allah 🙂

Revival and Correction of the Ummah

The last of this Ummah will not be corrected except by which the first of this Ummah was corrected by and that is the Book and the Sunnah.

[Imam Darul Hijra, Malik ibn Anas {r} d. 179]

Subhan Allah, many of the sahaba were extremely corrupt people in their pre-Islamic era. What transformed them into the best generation?

Adab Hadith Islam Paradise Tazkiyyah

Three Guarantees of Paradise

“I guarantee a house in Jannah (Paradise) for one who gives up arguing, even if he is in the right; and I guarantee a house in the middle of Jannah for one who abandons lying even for the sake of fun; and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Jannah for one who has good manners”

[Prophet Muhammad SAWS – reported by Imam Abu Dawud]

1. When in the middle of a heated argument over anything, just remember: Rasool Allah (SAWS) has promised you a house in Paradise if you give up this argument. What’s better: winning an argument and feeling tough and strong (while in the process, maybe hurting others and maybe disrespecting the Islamic adaab), or a house in Jannah?

Hadith Hajj Islam Salah Sunnah

As Easy as 1,2,3: A Hajj and Umrah a Day!

The Messenger of Allah [SAWS] said, “Whoever prays the dawn prayer (fajr) in a group and then sits and does dhikr until the sun rises, then prays two rak’as, shall have the like of the reward of a hajj and an ‘umra.”

Anas [RA] said, “The Prophet [SAWS] said: ‘Completely, completely, completely'”

First step

Pray Fajr in Jama’ah. The reward for the one who prays Fajr in Jama’ah is that of praying half the night (in Imam Muslim’s narration, praying Fajr in jama’ah has the reward of the entire night’s worship!).

Second step

Don’t rush out of the Masjid after the salah is over! Sit and remember Allah by making dhikr. Dhikr could be reading Quran (the best dhikr) or reading adhkaar found in authentic sunnah ( or here.

Third step

Before leaving, pray two rak’ah of Doha prayer. It’s the charity for every joint in your body (hadith quoted below). It’s a means of forgiveness of sins:

“Whoever adheres to the Duha prayer shall have his sins forgiven, even if they are like the foam of the sea.”

1 + 2 + 3 = The reward of a Hajj and Umrah! Every day!

May Allah give us all the tawfeeq to implement this day-in and day-out ’till we meet Him, ameen.

The Dua of Ibrahim [AS] – An Awesome Dua

And remember when Ibrahim (Abraham) and (his son) Isma’il (Ishmael) were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka’bah at Makkah), (saying), “Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Truly! You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.”

Our Lord! And make us submissive unto You and of our offspring a nation submissive unto You, and show us our Manasik (all the ceremonies of pilgrimage – Hajj and ‘Umrah), and accept our repentance. Truly, You are the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful.

Let’s look at this situation: we have two of the best of Allah’s creation (Ibrahim and Ismael, upon them be peace) making the most holy structure on the face of the Earth (the Ka’bah) in the most sanctified place on Earth (Makkah)…what is it the thought that is going through their minds?

A Jewel of Wisdom from a Jewel in Islam’s Crown

“The one who longs for Paradise will rush towards good deeds; the one who dreads Hell will put an end to his vices; the one who has firm conviction in [the imminent arrival of] death will lose all his passions; and the one who really knows the dunya will find disasters easy to bear.”
